from Kraylos: Yellow Finds his Purpose
Hello, my name is Shaid Williamson. My life story is long and complex, so here is the short version…I’ve been a fireman, worked in children’s ministries, owned my own business, and briefly was able to experience the so-called “American Dream.”
But somewhere along the way I fell down and made some seriously bad choices. I’m currently incarcerated in an Alabama prison. I chose all the bad things in life, lost sight of my purpose, and now I’m paying the price. However, I’m thankful for my incarceration because sometimes when we fall, we find our treasure. Various programs in prison have helped me to view life in a different way. The class that has meant the most to me, “House of Healing,” taught by Alden Brindle, helped me to discover my core self and taught me how to love myself. Now I understand that by loving myself I can genuinely love others.
There are a lot of amazing artists in prison and at first I tried to fit in with them, but the kind of artwork required to “fit in” was no longer in me. So, I began doodling cards for fellow inmates to send to their children. One thing led to another and through the persistence of my sister-in-law, I decided to try my hand at a kid’s book.
My treasure, I’ve discovered, is my children. My purpose, I’ve found, is fatherhood! I love each of my children so very much. Now I live for the day when I am released, able to embrace them and be the father they deserve. They are my inspiration for my first book.
I read somewhere that you never have to change what you see, only the way you see it. In a world of “faster, prettier, and better than me,” we look in the mirror and search for all the things society deems worthy… STOP! We are all created perfectly for a purpose and given the abilities to accomplish it. Discover what calls to your heart, love yourself, and love will open doors you could never imagine. I hope you enjoy Kraylos: Yellow Finds His Purpose, as much as I enjoyed creating it.
